Richard Kirk

He was born June 22, 1936, to Paul and Dorothy (Peterson) Kirk, at his grandparents’ home, Chet and Evelyn Peterson, in Goodman, Wis. His father was a well driller and his mother a homemaker.

Dick attended kindergarten in Goodman before the family moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wis. where his father worked at the shipyards. He attended school there for four years. The family then decided to move to Indianapolis, where his father started his own plumbing business. Dick attended Public School 27 there until the 9th grade.

His parents divorced and his mother with three children moved to Goodman to live with her parents. Dick graduated from Goodman High School in 1954. After graduation he traveled to Milwaukee and worked for the Maynard Steel Casting Company for three years.

He then went to work for Harley Davidson Motor Company in 1957. Dick liked his job test driving motorcycles and snowmobiles before they went into production. He also liked riding his own Harley motorcycle. Scott and Dan, his nephews, both have Harleys. In the winter, Dick, and his cousin Ray, would go trail riding on their Harley snowmobiles.

His past enjoyments also included traveling up north, going to Luck, Wis., California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Alaska, Washington, Canada, and many other places to visit family and friends. Playing cards and board games were favorite things as well. After retirement Dick moved to his place on Forest Lake for the summers and took his RV to warmer spots in the winter. In 1995 he became an official “snowbird” in Del Rio, Texas for many years. Later on, Dick moved to Goodman.

When in Goodman he attended the Meal Site. There he reconnected with old friends and made new ones. He enjoyed playing bingo and eating good food made by his favorite cook, Debbie. Richard never married but loved children of all ages.

Dick is survived by his sister, Judith (Bill) Berg of Florida; three nephews from the Iron Mountain area, Scott (Michelle) Deau, Dan (Sally) Deau and Rusty (Tammy) Deau and Mike (Dorri) Deau of Georgia; four nieces, Terrie Kirk of Rollins, N.C., Debbie (Steve) Warren of Lawson, Miss., Heather Harvey of Florida and Holly Koelbl of Clintonville, Wis.; great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Bob and his wife Lori, and their daughter Kim, and by a foster brother, Larry Noggle.

A graveside service will take place Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery in Goodman, Wis.
