Gordon K. Hicks

IRON MOUNTAIN — Gordon K. Hicks, 89, of Iron Mountain passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at the Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson.

Gordon was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Stanley and Lillian (Pollard) Hicks. After graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1953, he served in the Michigan National Guard, and on June 18, 1960, he married Lindes (Osterberg) Hicks at the First United Methodist Church.

Gordon worked at Maracini Cabinets before opening Hicks Cabinet Shop. He later worked as a carpenter for Ron Bergstrom and Marvin Pollard and started his own contracting business. Gordon was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Ski Club and served on the board of WRVM Christian radio station. He was active for years at First Methodist Church and later at First Covenant Church.

An extremely generous man and a hard worker, Gordon always woke up with a “To Do List.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to camp, making raspberry jam and maple syrup, and spending time in his shop. Most of all, he enjoyed the almost daily time spent with his grandchildren who adored him.

He is survived by his two children, Cindy (Dan) Harrington and Jamie (Barb) Hicks; 10 grandchildren, Derek (Katie) Harrington, Meagan (Dane) Baker, Caleb (Maria) Harrington, Daniel Harrington, Stephanie (Duane) Olson, Whitney Hicks, Tarah (Dylan) Tarsi, Brady Hicks, Kaitlyn Hicks and Brett Hicks; 12 great-grandchildren, Blake and Olivia Baker, Eloise, Samuel and Nicholas Harrington, Hailey, Camden and Nash Olson, Lucas Hicks, Eelyn, Sawyer and Jackson Tarsi; sister Carol Bates; and many other family and friends.

Along with his wife, Lindes, Gordon was preceded in death by a son, Jon Hicks; an infant daughter, Amy Sue Hicks; and his siblings, Thomas (Winnie) Hicks, Merlin Hicks, Betty (David) Forcey, and Ethel (Warren) Lidbeck.

Visitation will be 10:30 am to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jim Danielson officiating. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
