John L. Collins

He was born Jan. 17, 1930, in Kingsford, son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Fillion) Collins. John graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947 and was a lifelong resident of the area. He served his country for two years in the United States Navy.

John married Shirley Haines on March 31, 1951, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. He worked at the Niagara Paper Mill for 38 years, retiring in 1985.

John enjoyed coin and stamp collection, hunting, fishing and spending time with family.

He is survived by three children, Susie (Frank) Derouin, Tom Collins and Jerry (Tammy) Collins, all of Iron Mountain; nine grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Collins; and two sisters, Marion Collins and Anita Carollo.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Msgr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military graveside honors.
