MacGregor K. Phillips

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — MacGregor K. Phillips, 78, of Fayetteville, N.C., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1944, in South Bend, Ind., the son of the late George and Helena June (Rankin) Phillips. MacGregor attended elementary school in the Stambaugh Township School. He attended middle school at the Evansville Public School in Evansville, Ind., and graduated high school from Escola Maria Imaculata in Sao Paolo, Brazil. He went on to attend Purdue University.

He was employed as an intel analyst in the U.S. Army for four years and as a boiler technician in the U.S. Navy for 18 years. He enjoyed reading books and computer programming. He was known to be a fiercely independent, strong-willed man, who loved and was loved by all.

MacGregor is survived by his daughter, Marygrace Espinoza of Fort Knox, Ky.; brothers, MacDonald (Ines) Phillips of Woodbridge, Va. and Jeff (Michele) Phillips of Chicago; nieces, Jean Marie Robinson, Ann Marie Duffy, Carolyn Ines Hall, Katherine Patricia Pruce, and Elisabeth Michele Phillips; nephews, Paul Phillips, Donald Andrew Phillips, and Joseph Knight Phillips; and extended family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Phillips.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to noon at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor DJ Rasner to officiate.

The interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord military rites at the graveside.
