IRON RIVER — Karen Marie Juneau, 75, passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, with her family by her side, at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital.

She was born in Iron Mountain on Nov 19, 1947, daughter of the late William G. and Irene H. (Matza) Juneau. She was the second oldest of five children and was the only girl, known as “squeaks” to her family and friends, a nickname earned from loving a childhood stuffed puppy with a squeaky tail that she liked to annoy her brothers with. She attended Catholic School at American Martyrs in Kingsford and was a graduate of Kingsford High School in 1966. Later on, she also attended Bay College, taking computer classes. She married and divorced twice and had three children, Stephen R. Schoen Jr., Nicholas C. Schoen and Mason I. Axberg. She worked in the food service industry for most of her life, bartending and cooking at the T&T Supper Club and Pine Grove Golf Club.

She was known to be loving, determined and strong. She knew how to be direct with her three boys when needed. She enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, being outdoors with her sons, riding her motorcycle, cooking and water skiing.

She was also known for being a free spirit and walking around with bare feet while carrying her shoes to enter stores. And colors, she loved mixing up different colors on the walls and in life. Her determination also earned her a brown belt in Judo. She was presented with an award for furthest traveled to participate in a tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

She will be missed by her sons, Nicholas and Mason; grandchildren, Zach and Emma Axberg; brothers, William Juneau Jr., Albert Juneau Jr. and John Juneau (Leon Steinbrecher); and many other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her son, Stephen R. Schoen Jr.; brother, Joseph A Juneau; sisters-in-law, Marcia and Linda Juneau.
