Mary Ann Wahoviak

IRON MOUNTAIN — Mary Ann Wahoviak, 81, of Iron Mountain passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson.

Mary Ann was born March 11, 1942, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late James and Linnea (Lauger) Givogre. A 1960 graduate of Kingsford High School, Mary Ann married Robert Wahoviak on April 2 of that same year, and they spent more than 57 wonderful years together; he preceded her in death in 2017.

A lifelong resident of the area, Mary Ann was a sales clerk and manager at Payless Shoes for more than 30 years before retiring in 2005. She welcomed customers with a warm smile and cherished the many friendships she made over the years.

Mary Ann enjoyed bowling in league and playing cards with her friends in their weekly card club. She was an excellent cook and baker who will always be remembered for her homemade Italian cuisine. Her porketta, lasagna, ravioli, fresh baked bread, and from scratch Christmas cookies and chocolate birthday cakes were family favorites. Mary Ann’s recipes will be passed down to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed for years to come. She loved animals and had parakeets and dogs. Mary Ann rescued many dogs that no one else wanted from the animal shelter and gave them a good home. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Mary Ann is survived by her four children, James (Debbie) Wahoviak of Iron Mountain, John (Kathy) Wahoviak of Kingsford, and Robert “Tuba” Wahoviak and Corey Wahoviak, both of Iron Mountain; a special daughter-in-law, Wendy Schoepke; six grandchildren, Jim Jr. (Marquee) Wahoviak, Michael (Jessica) Wahoviak, Chelsey (Craig Strachan) Wahoviak, Cole Wahoviak, Luke Wahoviak, and Molly Wahoviak; five great-grandchildren, Jaxson Pawlak, Everett Wahoviak, Olivia and Owen Wahoviak, and Poppy Strachan; a brother, John Givogre; two sisters, Pat Hinkley of Kingsford and Joanie Cowling; a sister-in-law, Joyce Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, Robert, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her son, Edward Wahoviak; two brothers-in-law, Al Wahoviak and Bill Hinkley; and a sister-in-law, Doreen Givogre.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to the Almost Home Animal Shelter.
