BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Pauline Rose Formolo, 93, of Breitung Township, died Oct. 31, 2023.
She was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Rose (Menucci) Walker. She was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1948, and Long Beach State University, Long Beach, California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Humanities.
Pauline married Santo Formolo on July 14, 1951, at the U.S. Naval Base Chapel in San Diego; he preceded her in death in 2003. Pauline became accustomed to Navy life, moving to bases around the country from San Diego to Mare Island, Calif.; to Key West, Fla.; and to Newport, R.I.
When her husband retired from the Navy, the family spent a total of eight years living in Chassell, Marquette, Michigamme and L’Anse while her husband attained a teaching degree and taught school. The family finally settled in Southern California for 15 years, then moved on to Southern Oregon for five years. In 1985, after the children were grown, Pauline and Santo moved back to their birth place, Iron Mountain.
Over the years, Pauline was employed by Iron Mountain Michigan Bell, the Orange County California Library System in Laguna Beach, Calif., and later with the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, in Anaheim, Calif.
She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, flower gardening, traveling, and spending time with family. Pauline was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David A. Formolo; a granddaughter, Pauline Lee (Joe) Samascott; a brother, Ernest Walker; two sisters, Anna (Fiorino) Ganz and Alice (Jerry) Tousignant; and a great-niece, Jill Marie Mellon.
Pauline is survived by two sons, Timothy Formolo and Curt (Jennifer) Formolo; two daughters, Sherry Formolo and Holly Formolo; four grandchildren, Anthony (CJ), Michael (Michele), David S. (Rachel), and Daniel; three great-grandchildren, Jasmine (Brandon), Ellie, and Benjamin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Burial will take place in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carmelite Sisters at the Carmelite Monastery of Iron Mountain, or to St. Mary and St Joseph Catholic Church of Iron Mountain.
