Roger F. Thomson

NIAGARA, Wis. — Roger F. Thomson, 66, of Niagara, Wis., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

Roger was born on Jan. 18, 1959, in Iron Mountain. He was the fifth of nine children born to the late Jack Thomson and Leona Thomson Piche. He grew up with his family in Niagara, and attended Niagara High School. Following high school, Roger held positions with Khoury’s Furniture, Norway Chair Factory and Foley Martens, where he was a diligent worker, always proud of the products he delivered.

Roger was a man who embraced simplicity, finding much joy in the outdoors and the company of his loved ones. An avid hunter and fisherman, he often retreated to nature, where he discovered peace and purpose. Roger was a fighter in every sense of the word, demonstrating resilience after surviving a house fire as a child and battling colon cancer at age 34. His strength was evident not only in his survival of life’s trials, but also in the way he lived each day with intention and gratitude.

He had a hearty laugh that could light up a room and a heart that deeply cared for those around him, especially for his sidekick, Joe (Red) Freeman. Roger had a special bond with his mother, living with her and providing companionship for many years. His greatest joys were found in his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness. Roger will be best remembered for his love, strength, and ability to cherish the simple moments that make life beautiful.

He is survived by his children, Roger (Amanda Davis) Thomson, Stefanie (Jordan) Pugh, and Daniel (Tierney Grattan) Thomson; grandchildren Kaylee, Madilynn, Ethan, and Lexie; great-grandchild Raelynn Coates; brothers Joseph (Denise) Thomson, and John (Julie Delaney) Thomson; sisters Sharon (Derald) Harder, Sandra Thomson, Julie (Robert) Badini, Betty (Mike) Trindal, Priscilla (Randy) Van Straten, Norma (Mark) Horne; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle to many.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, July 12, at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited at noon at the funeral home. A private burial will take place in the Niagara Cemetery.
