Loren Poquette

HERMANSVILLE — Loren Francis Poquette, 90, a lifelong resident of Hermansville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain with his loved ones by his side.

Loren was born on April 1, 1935, in Hermansville, to the late Fred and Violet (Ayotte) Poquette. His 90 years were filled with faith, family, and friendships, with some hard work and fun sprinkled in.

Loren graduated from Hermansville High School in 1953. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and spent time overseas in Korea. Loren was proud to serve his country and created lifelong memories during his time in the military. He remained a member of Floriano Stecker Kelly American Legion Post 340 after returning home from his service.

On Aug. 1, 1959, Loren married Yvonne Fabry at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hermansville. They would spend the next 66 years together, raising three children, becoming grandparents and great-grandparents, and watching their family flourish and grow.

Loren was a member of the Carpenters and Millwright Union 1510 and spent his years working at various paper mills in the area. He retired in 1994, where he focused on his hobbies — spending time with his extended family, hunting, smelt fishing by the river, hanging out at camp, playing smear and cribbage, and of course, cheering on the Detroit Lions. He also took up golf in his retirement, even landing two hole-in-ones at Green Acres Golf Course, a feat he was very proud of.

Above all, Loren was proud of the family that he came from and the family he created. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne, and his children, Todd (Heather) Poquette, Kelly (Mark) Casanova, and Troy (Chris) Poquette. He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Ross Casanova, Brooke (Matt) Polk, Linzi (Chris) Josie, Jake Poquette, Olivia (Joe) Dwyer, and Emalie (Megan Salm), Isaiah, and Alicia Thern. He was also blessed with four great-grandsons, Lincoln, Callum, and Madden Polk, and Grover Dwyer. Loren’s first great-granddaughter is expected to arrive later this year.

Loren is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn (Dick) Dombrowski and Gail (Jim) Cater; sisters-in-law Beverly and Harriet Poquette; and brother-in-law Jack Peterson; along with many other family, friends and relatives.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Violet Poquette; brothers Melvin (Rita) Poquette, Lester Poquette, Bernard Poquette; sister Yvonne Peterson; and brother-in-law Jerry Cappaert.

Loren’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the entire staff at the Iron Mountain VA for their compassionate care, thoughtfulness, and expertise during Loren’s final days. The kindness and respect that they showed Loren and our family has helped make this transition as easy as possible and we are forever grateful for them.

Family will greet friends on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church in Hermansville.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at the church with Father Benny Mathew officiating.

Interment will follow with Military Honors at the Meyer Township Cemetery in Hermansville.
