Margene Absolon

FLORENCE, Wis. — Margene Ann Absolon passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at age 91, at Florence Health Services in Florence, Wis.

She was born in Elgin, Ill., in July of 1934, the only daughter and youngest child of Alfred and Gertrude (Gnekow) Schmoldt.

Margene grew up in northern Illinois and graduated from Barrington High School. In May of 1956 she married Richard Absolon. They lived in Illinois until April of 1968 when they moved their family to Crystal Falls.

She enjoyed her family, being outdoors (especially at camp), gardening, sewing, knitting, and watching birds at her feeders. In her younger years, she loved to roller skate and ice skate. Margene enjoyed hunting and fishing and fostered a love and respect for nature in her children. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, and also closely followed the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Red Wings, and Forest Park Trojans.

She is survived by her sons, Randall (Sabrina) and Daniel (Cynthia) Absolon; daughter Sandra (David) Anderson; grandsons Alfred and Richard Absolon, and Andrew and Benjamin Anderson; stepgrandchildren Heather Cooper and Jason and Scott Mendoza; sister-in-law Patricia Schmoldt; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Margene was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard; brothers Marvin, Howard, Lawrence and William; brother-in-law Robert Absolon; and sisters-in-law Jean and Margaret Schmoldt and Marilyn Absolon.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Feel free to honor her by having a piece of lemon pie in your Packers, Red Wings or Trojans apparel while listening to some Statler Brothers music.

In lieu of flowers, consider giving a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation or a charity of your choice.
