Michael Menza

He was born April 26, 1958, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Francis “Jim” and Margaret (Conery) Menza. Mike graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1976. He served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1980.

He held several different jobs in the area, including 20 years with the Iron Mountain Fire Department, retiring as fire chief. Mike was also a custodian at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, an over the road truck driver and bartender at Mayme’s Bar.

Mike was an avid bowler, having bowled three perfect 300 games and also had a 299 game. He also enjoyed playing bocce ball and pool. Mike coached soccer and basketball for several years. He was a big Detroit Lions and a fair-weather Pistons fan. Mike was happiest camping at Way Dam.

He is survived by a son, Kyle (Anna) Menza; a daughter, Angela (Dylan) Paterson and her children, Matthew (Madyson) Malone, Kiersten (Keith) Malone and Dylan Joseph Patterson Jr. Mike is also survived by his siblings, Monica (Paul) Fineberg, Jim (Patti) Menza, Mary (Scott) Broadbent, Maureen Galeazzi, Jane (Tom) Waggoner, Tom (Cathy) Menza and Chris (Marie) Menza; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
