What the month of June means to me

The month of June probably means different things to different people.

Watching the local and national news I was quickly reminded of what someone else wants it to mean to all of us. A rainbow-colored flag flying at the Wisconsin state capitol in Madison, just below the state flag, which is flying just below the American flag says a lot of things.

The month of June is right between two of our most important national holidays; Memorial Day, always in the last days of May, a special day to remember and pay our respect to those who gave their lives defending our country in war, and the Fourth of July, the day we celebrate as the beginning of our nation. Plus June 6, when we remember the D-Day invasion, a single day when 29,000 Americans died in the process of defeating Nazi Germany.

June is, for me, a length of time that I think about our country probably more than the other 11 months combined. For me, the month of June is a time of humility and thankfulness, realizing once again the good of America, even with all of her bad, has more times than not served her citizens well, along with the rest of the world. And many have paid a high price for me to even be able to say that.

Words are powerful things, someone has said that every word that proceeds out of our mouth is used for a good purpose or an evil purpose, whether we say it with much thought or without thinking much at all, they all have meaning.

What I am about to say will undoubtedly offend someone and may at the same time be encouraging to someone else,

I’ve thought about that. To be perfectly honest, I am trying to convince people just like others are speaking out trying to convince me. That by the way is one of the important freedoms/privileges/rights that those memorialized have died defending.

America’s greatness was only a byproduct of America’s Godliness. America cannot be made great again unless God is in it. God will only be in our national life if He is in our personal life.

The only way that God can be in our personal life is if Jesus Christ is in our personal life.

The one thing each of us can do to see “God bless America” again is to invite Jesus Christ into our hearts. Your personal life will be blessed more than you can imagine, and collectively our nation will be blessed. God’s promise in Psalm 33;12 is, “Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord.”

One more thought — the personal blessing that God has for you in His Son will last forever. The national blessing is temporary, you might say, a byproduct.
