Thanks for ‘Ford’s Mixed Legacy’

I want to thank the writer of “Ford’s Mixed Legacy” for bringing to light some unsavory events of Kingsford’s past. The writer of “Ford’s Mixed Legacy” was right to call out the past actions of those who sought to limit the economic opportunities for African Americans in our community.

However, Kingsford is not the same community it was in 1920. Now there are laws that protect all Americans from discrimination. Present-day Kingsford High School, while does not have as diverse a student body as large urban areas, is no longer an all-white high school. Due to anti-discrimination laws children are no longer denied access to an education based on the color of their skin. These laws have slowly chipped away at old attitudes and cultural prejudices to promote the idea that children should not be judged by the color of their skin but rather the intellect of their minds. One wonders how Kingsford will change in the next one hundred years.
