The Bob Lorinser for Congress campaign issued this statement in the wake of U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman’s vote Saturday against aid for Ukraine.

“Last night, we witnessed a stark reminder of why integrity, honesty, and wisdom are not just virtues, but absolute necessities in our leaders.

“Rep. Bergman’s vote against aiding Ukraine speaks volumes about the representation we lack, the values he cannot uphold, and the leadership Michigan’s 1st District does not have.

“Let’s be clear. Integrity isn’t just a word to toss around; it’s a promise to uphold the values we profess. When our elected officials claim to support Ukraine’s fight for survival but fail to back it with action, they betray that promise.

“Honesty matters. After hearing promises he would, the constituency expected Bergman to stand against tyrants like Putin, not enable them with a vote that undermines our principles and global security.

“Wisdom is the ability to discern right from wrong, even in the face of political pressure. The consequences of neglecting Ukraine are dire, not just for them but for our nation’s security and the entire world’s stability.

“As someone who has dedicated years to international diplomacy, I can attest that we cannot afford to abandon our allies. Doing so only emboldens our adversaries, putting us all at risk.

“This isn’t about partisan politics. It’s about fundamental principles. Americans deserve leaders they can trust who will uphold their promises and prioritize the safety and security of our nation above all else.
