Appreciated businesses’ help on ‘Sticker Shock’

Bouquets and Barbs

Bouquet: Communities that Care and Healthy Youth Coalition of Marinette and Menominee Counties would like to extend our appreciation to The Farmhouse Restaurant, Luigi’s Pizza & Pasta, Corner Grille, Scoops Sports Café, East Side Bar & Grill, Pirate’s Cove, Murray’s Irish Pub & Grille, Ogden Club, Real Pizza, Wausaukee Bowl, Red Brick Inn in Niagara and Dan & Tim’s Riverside for supporting CTC’s “Sticker Shock” campaign this summer.

Restaurants throughout Marinette and Menominee counties that serve pizzas to go were asked to add our Sticker Shock label that contained our “Tori” message of the importance in not providing alcohol to minors to their boxes. The project arose from results of a local survey given to students in grades six, eight, 10 and 12 indicating more than 60% of our youth report they’ve received their alcohol willingly from a parent. The statistic on the sticker and flier read, “I am 10 years old. If I drink before the age of 15, I am four times more likely to become an alcoholic” and showcased a picture of a girl named “Tori.”

The support from these businesses helped us spread important messaging and education to those in the community.

Underage drinking rates throughout Marinette and Menominee counties is above the national average. Not providing alcohol to minors under the age of 21 can protect brain development and decrease the likelihood of addiction later in life.

CTC would also like to acknowledge University of Wisconsin-Extension Marinette County and Nicklaus Counseling LLC for assisting in the effort.
