Foundation offers funds, grants for improving UP health

Bouquets and Barbs

Bouquet: In collaboration with the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, the Superior Health Foundation hosted a Lunch and Learn event on Thursday at Venue 906 in Kingsford. The event provided valuable insights into the foundation’s grant-giving initiatives to improve health and well-being across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Attendees learned about the various funds and grant programs available. Highlighting successful grants in Dickinson County, the foundation underscored its commitment to strengthening ties with the community and supporting local health initiatives.

“We encourage grant applications from local organizations, as collaboration is key to achieving our shared goal of enhancing health and well-being throughout the Upper Peninsula,” said Emily Ellis, community engagement and annual giving coordinator for the Superior Health Foundation. “As Dickinson County is my hometown community, I’m proud to support the growth of health-based initiatives in the area.”

Added SHF Executive Director Jim LaJoie, “We are incredibly thankful for the two dozen people who attended our event. Our foundation is committed to addressing the health care needs and disparities in Dickinson County. It was a wonderful event.”

Looking forward, the foundation has exciting events planned. The annual Golf Outing, which will be held on Friday, June 14, at the Red Fox Run Golf Course in Gwinn, provides an opportunity for community members to enjoy a day on the greens while supporting Dickinson County-based non-profit Dickinson-Iron Community Services Agency, or DICSA.

The foundation’s annual gala, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Northern Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, promises an evening of celebration supporting the Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center, showcasing the foundation’s dedication to enhancing health across the Upper Peninsula.

The Lunch and Learn event in Dickinson County exemplified the foundation’s dedication to fostering collaboration, community engagement and innovation in addressing health challenges.
