Thinking of how we pick leaders
EDITOR:
We are less than a week out from picking a leader for our federal government. For us here in Dickinson County, we are far removed from the federal government. However, whoever is elected on Nov. 5, the country will follow that person for the next four years.
I was thinking about a “What If” scenario. What would our county be like if our current county board chair, Henry Wender, acted and spoke like Donald Trump. How long would he have lasted in county government? Would we want our local official acting like this? A person coming up with all types of mistruths. He has not, but what would we think if Mr. Wender, during a board meeting, said “those people” in the southwest corner of Waucedah Township are eating cats and dogs. I am sure we would not accept this.
If Ann Martin all of a sudden started talking about the all the robberies and thievery that was taking place in Channing, we would ask for the proof. Not just accept what she said as is done with Mr. Trump. Dickinson County’s Prosecuting Attorney Report was released for September, I did not see anything in there about illegal immigrants and crime.
Our local high schools have a requirement that high school students attend a monthly board meeting. Would we want to condone this type of behavior from any of our other board of supervisors or students? No, we would not. So why are we accepting it from an individual that will be elevated up to national leader?
If you would not want Donald Trump as a county supervisor, why would you want him for the nation’s leader?
It is my understanding that a good number of men will not vote for Kamala Harris because she is a woman; she does not have the ability to do the job. Is that to also say neither Ann Martin or Barb Kramer has the ability to be county supervisors? We have not accepted this response for county government — why is it being put forth at the federal level? And then there is the “I’m not voting for her because she is a person of color.” I guess we are not over that either.
We have an opportunity to select a person that will be able to stand tall like Margaret Thatcher of the United Kingdom or Angela Merkel of Germany. It is your choice, stuck in the past or forward into tomorrow.
