The ‘Black Lives Matter’ sign will stay

My husband and I are appalled by the treatment of African Americans in this country. We want to do our part and contribute to the efforts to correct racial inequality in our society. We recently donated to a charity and purchased “Black Lives Matter” yard signs, which we put in our yard and the yards of a few equally concerned friends. Time to unite against violence

I can’t stay silent any longer. Our country appears to be self-destructing before my eyes. This no longer is a Republican vs. Democrat fight. We are now in the midst of watching our history, good and bad, being eradicated from our great land. America is on the verge of becoming a lawless country filled with hate and violence. Respect police for the work they do

The police deserve respect unless they use the laws to frame, injure or kill the innocent or helpless. We should be thankful for their commitment in the face of many dangers that could take their lives in a flash. We should pray for their safety. They are the front line against anarchy. They deserve the highest honor and respect, unless they think they are above the law they swore to uphold. The contrast between a good cop and bad cop has become perilously obvious. A good letter is better if signed

I am responding to the person who wrote a letter in the open forum that was published in the June 6 edition of The Daily News. Your letter about the peaceful protest held in Iron Mountain was well-written and I thank you for writing it, but it would have meant so much more if you had signed your name. I hope you write more letters in the future. I hope you sign your name so we can thank you for standing up for what is right.

Cancer Loan Closet back on regular schedule

The Cancer Loan Closet is happy to announce we are back to our regularly scheduled days and hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. These last few months have been a real challenge for us. Thankfully through the pandemic we have been able to assist our cancer clients as needed. We now are able to loan out and accept returns of our medical equipment to non-cancer clients. Absentee voting a good option

It’s nice to go to the polls and greet neighbors. But not during a pandemic. And not if you and two or three tired, cranky children are waiting in line after you’ve worked all day. Those closest to the door may have a chair, but often the line of voters stretches far beyond the line of chairs. Add in masks and social distancing,and you have misery and, for some, discouragement.
