Louisville holds
off Toledo
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Miller Moss took a knee to run out the clock on Louisville’s season, then flipped the ball to an official.
The official had the presence of mind to flip it right back to Moss. After all, he earned the souvenir.
Moss closed his college career by throwing for 153 yards and two touchdowns, Isaac Brown ran for a pair of scores — including a 53-yarder in the final minutes — and Louisville topped Toledo 27-22 in the Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday.
Moss completed 16 of 24 passes for the Cardinals (9-4), who survived a wild fourth quarter to finish their season with back-to-back wins.
Cubs sign
reliever Webb
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a one-year contract with right-handed reliever Jacob Webb with a club option for 2027, according to a person familiar with the deal.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the contract was pending a physical.
The 32-year-old Webb became a free agent last month when the Texas Rangers did not offer him a contract through arbitration. He went 5-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 55 appearances in his lone season with the Rangers.
Webb is 17-14 with a 2.99 ERA in six big-league seasons with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Angels, Baltimore and Texas. He won a World Series with the Braves in 2021.
The Cubs reached the postseason last season for the first time since 2020 and have spent part of the offseason rebuilding their bullpen.
Brad Keller and Drew Pomeranz departed in free agency, but Chicago re-signed left-hander Caleb Thielbar to a $4.5 million, one-year contract earlier this month.
The Cubs also added left-hander Hoby Milner on a one-year deal and signed right-hander Phil Maton to a two-year deal.
Koepka quits
LIV Golf
(AP) Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka is done with LIV Golf. The Saudi-funded league has announced that Koepka no long will compete with LIV after the 2025 season. The CEO of LIV says he wants to make his family a priority and stay close to home in Florida.
Koepka’s departure is a significant blow to the league as it enters its fifth year. He is one of the marquee names to defect to LIV in 2022 and the first LIV player to win a major at the 2023 PGA Championship. The next question is how the PGA Tour takes him back.
Rozier wants
charges tossed
NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier are asking a judge to throw out sports gambling charges that have kept him off the court this season, arguing that the government overreached by turning a private dispute over bettors’ use of non-public information into a federal case.
In a motion to dismiss made public on Tuesday, Rozier’s lawyers argue that the government’s theory of the case — that he prevented sportsbooks from making informed decisions about accepting certain bets — runs afoul of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that narrowed the federal wire fraud statute.
Rozier was released on $3 million bond after pleading not guilty in federal court in Brooklyn on Dec. 8 to wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy charges.
