Skiing: Sheski, Norway place 2nd

NORWAY — Norway finished second behind Marquette in a high school ski race at Norway Mountain.

Houghton-Hancock and Ironwood also participated.

Allie Sheski led the Knights with a fifth in slalom.

“She had a much better slalom race today,” said Norway coach Steve Sheski.

David Loomis bobbled his first run and had to hike to make the course. He pulled out a fast two run and ended up 12th.

“Erick Schultz placed 11th in slalom which was great to see,” coach Sheski said.

Kaylin Urban placed 13th and Alex Heigl 15th.

Giant slalom wasn’t our strength, for some reason,” Sheski said. “But I have to say these kids are all getting faster and stronger through each course.”

Giant slalom runs were in the morning. Sheski placed seventh, followed by Loomis, ninth; Schultz, 13th; Urban, 14th, and Heigl, 15th.

“Thanks to Norway Mountain for the amazing conditions as the runs were fantastic and held up well throughout the day,” Sheski said. “Norway Mountain worked hard to get the race run ready for us. We’re fortunate to have a great race venue.”

Norway’s next race is Tuesday at Marquette Mountain.
