IRON MOUNTAIN — Drew Richmond added another Iron Mountain distance run title to his accomplishments this summer.
Iron Mountain’s Richmond, winner of last month’s Lake Antoine Classic 15K run, took top men’s honors Saturday in the sixth annual Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon.
Richmond, age 40-49 division, completed the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 31 minutes, 24 seconds. Kingsford’s Pipp brothers, Matthew and Daniel, placed second and third, respectively.
Iron Mountain’s Rebecca Steinbrecher, age 30-39, was the women’s winner in 1:44.59. She was followed by Brittany Richard of Garden and Kristi Olson of Norway.
Runners weathered sauna-like conditions in starting the race in Iron Mountain and heading out to Lake Antoine and Fumee Lake Natural Area before returning downtown.
Kendal Janquart of De Pere, Wis., repeated as the two-mile winner, claiming the first Mini Mooch-a-thon named after Iron Mountain native and former National Football League coach Steve Mariucci. Mariucci Family Foundation sponsored the event for the first time.
Janquart dominated the distance in 14:46, beating Fulton Stroud of Iron Mountain and Jim Cihak of Amasa. Bella Pickett of Iron Mountain, posting a winning time of 17:45, topped Karen Varda-Smith of Iron Mountain, Lynn Mande of Okemos and Kerry Janquart of De Pere in the female division.
Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon, with proceeds to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet, was held in conjunction with Oktoberfest.
