Mountaineers fall in quarterfinals
PETOSKEY — Iron Mountain battled back from a 16-point deficit in the first quarter to lead in the third but wound up bowing to Maple City Glen Lake 66-49 in a Class C boys basketball state quarterfinal Tuesday.
The Lakers (24-2) built a 21-5 lead in the first quarter but the Mountaineers (23-2) closed to 30-27 at halftime and pulled ahead 33-31 in the third quarter.
MCGL then went on a 16-2 run for a 47-35 advantage late in the third quarter.
Freshman Foster Wonders led the Mountaineers with 21 points. Charlie Gerhard added 10 points and Marcus Johnson had eight.
Reece Hazelton, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, paced MCGL with 21 points. Xander Okerlund, a 6-4 junior, chipped in 19 points.
