Eagles fly by Lady Knights, 50-33

STEPHENSON — In Skyline Central Conference girls basketball action Thursday night, the Stephenson Eagles defeated the Norway Lady Knights 50-33 at Stephenson High School.

With the score tied 17-17 late in the second quarter, Norway head coach Joe Tinti said, “We lost the lead going into halftime and a quick surge by Stephenson to start the third was ultimately the dagger.” The Eagles led 21-17 at halftime, then outscored Norway 15-4 in the third quarter.

“There was a lid on our rim for the third quarter,” said Tinti.

Emily Johnson led all scorers with 18 points for Stephenson. Sophomore Kassie Gyselink led Norway with 12 points, and Mackenzie Clifford chipped in 10.

“We played two and a half quarters of good basketball. We were out-rebounded easily by double figures. We did make some progress of who we want to become, and this group does not quit and we look forward to continuing to improve as the season moves on,” Tinti said.

Norway travels to Rapid River Tuesday night for another Skyline Central game.
