Graduation takes toll on Nordics

Boys Basketball

FELCH — Graduating four starters has left some holes in North Dickinson’s boys basketball program.

Skyline Central Conference first-team and all defensive team recipient Matthew Bruette, SCC honorable mention Joe Roell, Quenten Ackerman and Brendon Steinbrecher, were all starters from last year’s 9-10 team.

“We have many shoes to fill from last season due to the graduation of those four players.” said ND Coach Chris Mattson.

The lone returning starter from last season is senior Cameron Schultz. Other returning letterwinners are seniors Cuyler Crites and John Briggs.

“We lost 80 percent of our scoring and rebounding from last season, which make a great opportunity for our younger players to step up,” Mattson said. “It won’t be easy sledding this season, but I feel we will be better by season’s end.”

The Nordics begin their season Monday, hosting SCC foe Norway at Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium.

Mike Christian returns as JV coach for this season.

Roster:

Seniors — John Briggs, 5-10; Brandon Thao, 5-7; Cameron Schultz, 5-11; Justin Slagle, 6-2; John Mayfield, 6-1; Cuyler Crites, 6-0

Juniors — Brennan Donaldson, 6-1; Colin Graham, 5-10. Sophomores — Colt Glasheen, 5-10; Maximus Mattson, 5-10
