Houghton shuts out Kingsford

HOUGHTON – It was a rough night for the Kingsford hockey team Tuesday, as Houghton blanked the Flivvers 8-0 in a Great Lakes Hockey Conference game.

Brandon Trudeau led the way for the Gremlins with a hat trick, scoring back-to-back goals in the second period 1:13 apart before adding a third tally in the third period on the power play.

Evan Hedtke made 40 saves for the Flivvers in the loss.

“Houghton is very physical and holds the offensive blue line well,” said Kingsford head coach Greg Wadge. “Compete level was not good, and we lost too many one on one battles on defense”

Wadge noted the Flivvers had way too many penalties and need to play more disciplined. “Very poor overall effort tonight,” he said.

Kingsford (2-3) is off until Monday when they travel to Negaunee.
