IRON MOUNTAIN — Shawn McGuire knocked off a state qualifier from last season, while Parker Stroud and Isaac Manier remained undefeated on the season, as Iron Mountain battled Gladstone and Gwinn in a wrestling quad here Thursday.

The Mountaineers fell 46-23 to Gladstone while tying Negaunee 42-42.

McGuire (119 pounds), Stroud (135) and Preston Roberts (145) all won for IM against Gladstone, with McGuire’s first period pin of Division 3 state qualifier Lane Matzke the highlight.

“That’s a big win for McGuire,” IM coach Cory Mclaren said.

Manier took a forfeit victory at 130 pounds.

Against Negaunee, Evan Haferkorn (119), McGuire (125), Stroud (130), Manier (135), Roberts (145), Brent Aman (171) and Bradon Farragh (189) all wrestled to wins.

The Mountaineers head to the Marquette Challenge Saturday.
