Bill Carollo, a frequent participant in the Izzo-Mariucci Classic golf tournament and auction, will remain the coordinator of football officials for the Collegiate Officiating Consortium (COC).

The classy Carollo oversees Big Ten, Mid-American and Missouri Valley conference football refs.

“I have the best job in college football, maybe all of football, and look forward to continuing in this role while working with the best collection of officials in the country,” said Carollo, son of Iron Mountain High School graduate Aldo Carollo.

Edina High School hockey coach Willard Ikola, who won 616 games and eight state titles, credited “great parents and a great feeder system.”

The late St. John’s coach John Gagliardi, who won a record 489 football games, “suffered defeat more severely than any coach of my acquaintance,” according to veteran Star Tribune scribe Patrick Reusse.

I’m a better man after watching the movie “Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” where Tom Hanks plays the role of kids TV host Fred Rogers. A girl walked in front of me three times during the movie and, normally, I would tell her to sit down, but this time I merely gritted my teeth.

“There’s a question that Fred asks in the film, and he’s asked it in a number of public forums,” according to Parade magazine. “Is there somebody who loved you into existence, who loved you so much that you became who you are right now? Who taught us how to love, who accepted us exactly as we are? Who told us that we were special and gave us that foundation of confidence and benevolence that we would not have had if they had not been in our lives?”

Mack Lanes Services seems to be the place to go to refurbish bowling centers. The DePere, Wis., firm has worked on Marquette Township’s Superior Lanes and Ishpeming’s River Rock Lanes in the past few months …
