Boys basketball: Forest Park eeks past North Dickinson 51-46
CRYSTAL FALLS — Forest Park overcame two Nordics in double figures on Tuesday night to slip past North Dickinson 51-46 in Skyline Central Conference boys basketball action.
Keall Emmers led the Trojans on the evening with 18 points, with 12 of them from behind the three-point arc.
Cameron Schultz led the Nordics with a game-high 19 points, while sophomore Maximus Mattson canned five 3-pointers to end with 17 points for North Dickinson.
Forest Park head coach Kurt Lehmann saw his team even its record at 5-5.
“Keall Emmers had a big night for us tonight hitting four threes and handling their pressure well,” he said. “Gavin Johnson played well for us off the bench and Gabe Scarlassara had a really good night on both sides of the ball.”
North Dickinson head coach Chris Mattson noted that the pace of the game was slow throughout.
“Cameron was a slasher on offense tonight, and Maximus shot well from the outside,” he said. “We got off to a slow start to begin the second half, which seems to be a problem for us all season thus far. It was almost four minutes in to the third quarter before we scored. We need to shoot better next time we play them, and our execution needs to get better on offense going forward.”
Lehmann noted that the Nordics played really hard and hit some really big shots when they needed them and played tough defense the whole night.
North Dickinson (2-8) returns home to face Mid Peninsula on Friday. Forest Park hosts Carney-Nadeau on the same night, both games being SCC matchups.
Forest Parks’ new weight room dedication is scheduled to take place in the Eddie Chambers Gymnasium between the JV and varsity games Friday night.

ST. NICHOLAS — The fourth-ranked North Central boys found a way to grind out a basketball victory here Tuesday night, topping the Mid Peninsula Wolverines 44-35.
“We did not shoot well,” said Jets coach Mike Malone. “Although, they handled the pressure well. They were very patient on offense and got a lot of open looks we didn’t close out on quick enough. We didn’t play bad defense, but it wasn’t perfect. Hats off to Mid Pen. They played their hearts out. Mark (coach Branstrom) gets the most out of them. I have a lot of respect for him.”
Luke Gorzinski scored 16 points and Noah Gorzinski added 13 for the Jets, who led 31-27 after the third quarter of this Skyline Central Conference contest.
“We had to play extremely well and keep our turnovers down, and that’s what we did,” said Branstrom. “We had to execute everything just about perfect and we executed well, only we didn’t shoot well. They’re such a good team. We did pretty well with our execution on defense, but the kids got tired in the end. Overall, we played well. It was a very good ball game, a good one to watch. I think the world of Mike. They have a good coach. They’re going to go a long way.”
Zach Englund led the Wolverines with 14 points.
