Austria dominates Cup standings as ski jumpers descend on Pine Mountain
BROTTERODE, Germany — In the final competition round ahead of this weekend’s event at Pine Mountain, Norway’s Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng came out on top in Continental Cup ski jumping held in Brotterode Germany Sunday.
The 24-year-old Norwegian posted two consistently strong jumps of 115.5 and 113.5 meters and claimed his third win in the Continental Cup, the first since September 2016, with 242.8 points.
The remaining two spots on the podium went to Polish ski jumpers. Pawel Wasek finished second with 117 and 111.5 for 237.9 points. He was followed by fellow countryman Stefan Hula with two jumps of 115.5 meters for 235.4 points.
Cene Prevc of Slovenia moved up from tenth to fourth in the second round and repeated his result from the first day of competition in Brotterode. His teammate Rok Justin, who won the event on Saturday, finished right behind him in fifth.
Austria’s Clemens Leitner leads the overall ranking of the COC with 695 points ahead of his teammates Stefan Huber (532 points) and Clemens Aigner (511 points).
Continental Cup ski jumping at Pine Mountain begins Friday and is the only FIS cup event in the United States this season.
