IRON MOUNTAIN — The January Hometowne Lumber male and female Athletes of the Month were selected Monday afternoon. The female selection was Alyssa Cretton of Niagara for basketball and the male selection was Kody Hendricks of Norway, also for basketball.

Cretton, a junior basketball player for the Lady Badgers averaged 14.6 points, five rebounds and four steals per game in the eight games Niagara played in the month. The Badgers have been hit hard with injuries this season and Cretton has played consistently throughout the season.

Hendricks, a senior center on the Knights basketball team, averaged a double-double in January with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Norway went 6-2 in the month, ending on a five-game winning streak.

Athletes of the Month are automatically in the running for the Hometowne Lumber male and female Athlete’s of the Year, announced at the year end banquet on June 3.

Other January nominations included North Dickinson’s Cameron Schultz (basketball) and Brianna Smith (basketball); Niagara’s Josh Weber (basketball); Iron Mountain’s Marcus Johnson (basketball) and Claire Mongrain (basketball); Norway’s Cassie Gyselinck (basketball); Florence’s Kaden Schuls (basketball) and Jenna Springer (basketball)’ and Kingsford’s Cole Bracket (basketball) and Brooke Kriegl (basketball).
