Nordics’ second-half push comes up short
FELCH — North Dickinson battled from an eight-point halftime deficit before falling to Mid Peninsula 46-42 in Skyline Central Conference boys basketball Friday.
The Nordics’ Maximus Mattson scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half as the rally came up short.
“They probably did the little things better than we did,” said North Dickinson coach Chris Mattson. “Maximus had a whale of a game offensively.”
The Wolverines put four players in double figures, led by Zach Englund with 12 points. Dylan Trudell, Mike Englund and Ben Lehtikangas scored 10 apiece.
Mid Peninsula slowed the tempo in the first half, taking a 22-14 lead into intermission.
“We picked up our energy in the second half, but gave them some second-chance opportunities at the end,” coach Mattson said.
The Nordics missed just one free throw in seven chances. Mid Peninsula converted 13 of 24 at the line.
Brennan Donaldson had 15 of North Dickinson’s 28 rebounds.
The Nordics (2-9) will host Rapid River on Tuesday.
North Dickinson won the JV game 39-33 behind Warren Gustafson’s 16 points.
