Simmons’ triple-double leads FP
RAPID RIVER — A triple-double of 14 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals by Mercedes Simmons helped Forest Park whitewash Rapid River 48-18 in Skyline Central Conference girls basketball Tuesday.
“Mercedes did a great job jumping in passing lanes to get 11 steals,” Forest Park head coach Kim Bjork said. “We played good defense. Our first and fourth quarters we had a good scoring effort. We are taking shots but haven’t found consistent scoring for four straight quarters.”
Raven Johnson added 10 points for the Trojans, who improved to 7-11.
” Our effort was better tonight and we had multiple girls contribute offensively,” Bjork said.
The Rockets hit just 7-of-43 field goals.
“It was night and day from yesterday’s game (a 50-42 loss to Mid Peninsula Monday),” said Rockets’ coach Scott Goodacre. “We had too many miscues, missed assignments and poor shooting. It was just a lackluster performance out of us tonight.”
Natalie Belanger scored 11 points for the Rockets (5-11), who committed 22 turnovers.
Forest Park fell 54-16 in the JV game. Forest Park hosts fifth-ranked North Dickinson Thursday.
