CRYSTAL FALLS –A strong first and fourth quarter powered the Carney-Nadeau Wolves past the Forest Park Trojans 53-44 Friday night at the Eddie Chambers Memorial Gymnasium.
Wolves senior Brett LaFord led all scorers with 28 points, while teammate and fellow senior Max Baumler chipped in 21 points.
Forest Park (5-6) was led in scoring by Tommy Showers with 15 points, while Keall Emmers netted 14 in the Skyline Central Conference game.
Carney veteran head coach Paul Polfus said, “Considering we shot so poorly in the second and third quarters, I am pleased that we pulled this one out. Baumler and Brett LaFord shot well in the fourth for us.”
Polfus also noted, “We’ve been struggling to close out close games, so tonight was nice to get a win, especially on the road.” The Wolves improved to 7-5 on the season.
Forest Park first-year head coach Kurt Lehmann said, “The kids played well overall, despite the loss. When only two kids score most of the points, it makes the coach look bad for not adjusting.
“We have to be able to make adjustments on the court, which is on me as well as the boys. We make too many little mistakes, we’re a work in progress.”
The Trojans remain home to host Stephenson on Tuesday, while Carney entertains arch rival North Central on the same night.
