State mandate closes YMCA
IRON MOUNTAIN – The Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center closed its doors Monday afternoon in response to the state mandate that all health clubs and gyms be shuttered for the next two weeks to help slow down the spread of coronavirus.
The YMCA issued a statement that read:
“Per the latest state-issued mandate, the YMCA will be closing Monday, March 16, at 3 p.m. until further notice.
“The YMCA child care center will remain open, but that, too, could change in the coming hours and days.
“We ask for patience during this time. We will communicate directly with our members regarding their memberships and will issue further details in the coming days.
“Thank you very much for your support and understanding as we work through these challenging times.”
YMCA officials told The Daily News that all memberships have been placed on hold and staff reductions will be implemented immediately.
But the center is hopeful that current members may opt to keep their memberships active during the shutdown in a show of support for the non-profit facility.
