Knights nipped twice by Gladstone
Norway lost two close games to Gladstone in a softball doubleheader Thursday at Marion Park, 3-2 and 7-5.
The Knights had eight hits in the opener and left six runners on base. Jordyn Moln led the offense with a double and single. Kendall Burklund, Payton Paquette, and Aidan Fisher all doubled and Myah Gilroy singled and drove in a run.
Burklund pitched seven innings for Norway, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and a pair of walks. She struck out six.
Gladstone’s Lauren Pare also pitched a complete game, walking one and fanning seven.
Gladstone broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the seventh.
In the second game, Norway played from behind and battled to a 6-5 deficit until the Braves added an insurance run in the seventh.
Jordyn Moln smacked three singles and Fisher had two doubles to lead the Knights at the plate. Norway also drew eight walks and had two batters hit by Braves pitcher Addy Sanville, but left eight on the base paths.
Pare relieved Sanville and worked a perfect seventh to seal the win.
Norway’s Lila Moraska relieved Moln in the first inning and went on to allow three runs — two earned — while fanning eight.
