Izzo, MSU land another 5-Star recruit commitment

EAST LANSING — Make it two five-star commitments in two weeks for Michigan State basketball. Elite senior shooting guard Max Christie of Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois announced his commitment to the Spartans on Tuesday.

Stephen Brooks of 247 Sports.com reports that Christie, the No. 13 overall senior prospect on the 247Sports Composite rankings, joins four-star guard Pierre Brooks II in MSU’s 2021 recruiting class.

“It felt like the perfect fit for me,” Christie told 247Sports. “Michigan State is a place I want to be and a place where I feel I can be the best version of myself.”

It’s another significant recruiting win for Tom Izzo’s program, which landed a commitment from class of 2022 phenom Emoni Bates on June 29. Duke was long considered the main challenger for the 6-foot-6, 165-pound Christie, though he also received considerable interest from Ohio State, Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue, among others. The Spartans gained the upper hand in the recruitment over the past few months by showing the elite wing he is their top priority.
