MHSAA Area officials honored for years of service

EAST LANSING — The Michigan High School Athletic Association annually honors high school game officials with 20, 30, 40, 45 and 50 years of service at its Officials’ Awards and Alumni Banquet.

However, this spring’s banquet was canceled due to COVID-19. Instead, a virtual recognition program was posted online on June 25, for 322 officials who celebrated a milestone school year.

Twenty-three officials with 50 years of service were honored along with 55 officials with 45 years. A 40-year award has been presented to 55 officials. In addition, 108 officials with 30 years and 181 officials with 20 years of experience are honored.

Area officials who were honored are as follows:

— Joe Reddinger, Kingsford 50 years

— John Pucci, Iron Mountain 40 years

— George Pond Sr., Iron Mountain 30 years

— Mark Shanks, Kingsford 30 years

— Jason Price, Crystal Falls 20 years

— Ryan Gordon, Iron Mountain 20 years

— Rich Dietz, Daggett 20 years

Other UP Officials who were honored:

— David St. Onge, Ishpeming 50 years

— Steve Ayotte, Negaunee 45 years

— Gary O’Brien Champion 40 years

— Mark Giannunzio, Manistique 20 years

— Doug Ingalls, St. Ignace 20 years
