Flivvers nip Norway, 3-1

KINGSFORD — In non-conference volleyball action Thursday night from the Kingsford Middle School Gymnasium, the host Flivvers downed Norway 3-1(25-21, 25-14, 17-25, 25-8).

“Tonight we simply could not find a rhythm. I did not see the same team or intensity that I saw on Tuesday night against Escanaba,” said Kingsford coach Jaclynn Kreider. “We have to come into each match with a fighting mindset no matter who the opponent.”

“We changed things up a lot tonight. I moved girls into positions they’ve never played before, for the first time tonight” said Norway coach Erica Harnden. “They did really well and adapted to it.”

“Olivia Stanchina did a great job on the net for us tonight and we brought Hannah Burklund back as our Libero,” Harnden added. “Kasse Kay did a great job again serving and kept our momentum going in the third game.”

As every volleyball team has had to endure as of late, it’s an adjustment for wearing face masks for the players throughout the entire contest.

“It was our first night wearing masks and I could tell that the girls weren’t themselves. I feel terrible for our athletes and struggle to find the words to comfort and motivate them at times,” Kreider added.

Kingsford remains home to host Great Northern Conference foe Menominee on Tuesday. Norway travels to Rapid River on the same night.
