Bobcats top Three Lakes
FLORENCE, Wis. — In Northern Lakes Conference football action Friday night, Florence overcame an eight- point halftime deficit to defeat Three Lakes 38-28 at Landry Field.
“Couldn’t be prouder of these players and this team, playing in their homecoming game. We really had to work hard to earn this win, especially after significant losses to three seniors who were very valuable two-way players for us,” said Florence head coach Kent Walstrom. “With the injuries we endured, we needed players to step up to win this game and they did.”
The Bobcats were up 14-0 and in the span of a few plays late in the first quarter, lost starting RB/DE and team captain William Liebergen and starting LG-DT Austin Hoey and starting RG/MLB Matthew Johnson, to injuries.
Florence quarterback Braden Boettcher was 9-of -14 for 307 yards with three 3 TDs.
Corbin Behrmann had six catches for 191 yards and two receiving TDs plus six carries for 71 yards and two rushing TDs.
“Behrmann and Boettcher are talented seniors, and they just took control of the ball game,” Walstrom said.
“On defense, credit to Coach (Joe) Ferris for patching holes and holding them down when we had to have stops,” said Walstrom.
Trent Watkins led the Bobcats with 17 tackles, followed by Patrick Milan, 11; Kyle Leffler, 9; Boettcher, 8; Behrmann, 8 tackles, 1 sack; Cody Reubens 7 tackles, 1 sack.
Sophomore Evan Johnson added 2 catches for 75 yards and a TD plus nine carries for 54 yards on the ground for the Bobcats.
“I don’t know what these injuries will mean for us going forward,” Walstrom said. “We were going to be a very competitive team with everyone available and healthy, and unfortunately that hasn’t been the case since we’ve started the season. But this was a big win for us, and every player we suited up had a hand in the win.”
Florence (2-1) remains home to host Marinette-Oconto Conference foe Wausaukee on Friday night.
