Bobcats fade late, fall to Rebels 64-59

WABENO, Wis. — Florence led 34-26 at halftime but a strong second half propelled Laona-Wabeno to a 64-59 win in boys basketball action Monday.

“For the majority of the game we led, but just could not capitalize in the home stretch,” said Florence coach Bryan Bomberg. “I was really proud of how gritty and tough everyone played. Laona-Wabeno is a solid team.”

Four Bobcats scored in double figures — Patrick Milan, 16; Dominic DeMuri, 15; William Kelley, 14; and Evan Johnson, 12. Dustin Williams rounded out the scoring with two points.

Milan also collected 11 rebounds while DeMuri had 10.

The Rebels, who improved to 5-1, were led by Connor Taylor’s 34 points. Reed Christianson added 15.

Florence (2-3) was traveling to Crandon, Wis., for a 10 a.m. start today.

“Some correctable errors we can go back and fix,” Bomberg said. “As I told my guys in the locker room after the game, we belong. We are growing up in games.”
