Upper Peninsula-high 6 Dream Team selections for North Central
Jets QB Luke Gorzinski named unanimous Offensive Player of the Year

IRONWOOD — The Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association released the 8-player All-U.P. football selections Friday evening. As in 11-player, the region is well represented on both the Dream Team and First Team.
There were seven Dream Team selections combined from North Central and Forest Park. The undefeated Jets had a U.P.-high six players selected to the Dream Team — quarterback Luke Gorzinski, lineman Fabian Chartier, wide receiver Ian Gorzinski, defensive lineman Carter Eichmeier, kicker Daniel Dani and return specialist Alex Naser.
Luke Gorzinski, a sophomore, was a unanimous selection as 8-player U.P. Offensive Player of the Year. The 9-0 Jets were led by Gorzinski’s 1,253 passing yards, with 20 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also rushed for 811 yards and 17 touchdowns.
North Central was also selected unanimously as the 8-player Team of the Year in the U.P. The Jets’ average margin of victory in their nine wins was an astounding 53 points, while scoring 489 points on the season.
Forest Park senior Tommy Showers was tabbed as a Dream Team player at defensive end. Showers was also named First Team kicker by the UPSSA.
Joining Showers on the First Team is fellow Trojans senior Gabe Scarlassara, who was a defensive line selection.
North Central’s Naser, a junior, was a First Team selection at running back, with fellow Jets junior Wyatt Raab a First Team selection at defensive line.
North Central head coach Leo Gorzinski was named U.P. 8-player Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Grant Fountain of Cedarville was named 8-player Defensive Player of the Year.
Two North Dickinson seniors were named as honorable mentions — Brennan Donaldson and Tucker Mattson.
