Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur says there’s a possibility newly acquired defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison could play in the team’s regular-season finale Sunday at Chicago.
The Packers claimed Harrison off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday as they looked to add depth to their defensive front for their playoff run. LaFleur said Thursday that Harrison could potentially suit up Sunday.
“It’s just how fast can we get him acclimated to what we’re trying to do and what we’re asking him to do,” he said.
The Packers announced the addition of Harrison on Thursday. The Packers also announced they have released defensive lineman Anthony Rush.
Because Harrison had gone through the NFL’s protocol for COVID-19 precautions, he was able to bypass the standard five-day waiting period before joining his new team.
“He’s been a guy that’s been playing at a high level since he entered the league and been one of the best nose tackles to play,” defensive tackle Kenny Clark said. “So, (I’m) excited to get a chance to talk to him, pick his brain and, you know, play with him.”
Harrison played six games for the Seahawks. He was released Monday after the Seahawks left him inactive for their victory over the Los Angeles Rams a day earlier.
The 32-year-old earned All-Pro honors while playing for the New York Giants in 2016.
“What we’ve heard is that he’s a really intelligent guy,” LaFleur said. “Obviously, he’s got a lot of experience, so that usually, you know, expedites the learning curve for these guys.”
NOTES: Running back Jamaal Williams, who missed the Titans game with a quadriceps injury, was a full practice participant. … Tight end Jace Sternberger, who has missed the Packers’ past three games with a concussion, has been cleared to play against the Bears. … Defensive lineman Kingsley Keke didn’t practice and also is dealing with a concussion.
