Flivvers power past Miners for first hockey win

Kreski scores six goals for Kingsford; goaltender Anderson credited with 19 saves

IRON MOUNTAIN — In their second game in as many nights, the Kingsford Flivvers co-op hockey team got their first win of the season as they cruised past Negaunee 9-1 Tuesday at Mountain View Ice Arena.

Kingsford senior Carter Kreski ripped the nets with six goals. Hunter Fortner lit the lamp twice, while the Flivvers’ other goal was scored by Jack Perpich. Flivvers netminder Norway High School senior Evan Anderson had 19 saves.

“Great overall effort from everyone,” said Kingsford head coach Greg Wadge. “Evan (Anderson) did a great job in net, we got pucks in behind their defenseman and did a good job on the forecheck. We started using our points midway through the game and it was nice to see us create some offense. It was a good win for those young men.”

The first of Kreski’s six goals got the Flivvers on the scoreboard first. Negaunee tied the game 20 seconds later, with Niko Lukkarinen getting the puck past Anderson. From there it was all Kingsford.

Iron Mountain student David Juul tallied three assists as the Flivvers outshot the Miners 30-20.

The Flivvers (1-1, 1-1 GLHC) return to action Thursday night, as they host Jeffers in another Great Lakes Hockey Conference game. Opening face-off at Mountain View is set for 5 p.m.
