Iron Mountain boys No. 2 in first hoops poll

Flivver boys tied for No. 4

IRONWOOD — The first Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association U.P. basketball poll for the 2021 season has been tabulated. The amount of poll voters and the voting process itself, remain the same from 2019-20.

Iron Mountain’s boys team (6-0) comes in at No. 2 in the Division 1-3 poll, receiving two first place votes and 21 poll points. Escanaba (5-0) received the other three first place votes and 23 poll points to take the first place spot in this week’s poll.

Kingsford (4-1) and head coach Dan Olkkonen come in the No. 4 spot, in a tie with undefeated (6-0) Bark River-Harris.

On the girls side of things, the (2-2) North Dickinson Nordics received votes from the five person voting panel, in the Division 4 poll.

The U.P.S.S.A. poll voters once again this basketball season are: Rob Roos-Sault Evening News, Jason Juno-Ironwood Daily Globe, Mike Ludlum-WLUC TV6, Bryce Derouin-UPBeat Sports, Matt “Sweets” McCarthy- Iron Mountain Daily News.
