Northern Lakes selects all-conference teams

CRANDON Wis. — The Northern Lakes Conference 2020-21 all-conference basketball selections have been announced. Both Goodman-Pembine and Florence are represented.

On the boys’ side, Florence junior Patrick Milan was selected as Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being an all-conference first team selection. Fellow junior Boone Larison of Goodman-Pembine was also named to the first team.

They joins fellow juniors Chase Novak of Elcho, as well as Reed Christianson and Connor Taylor, both of conference champion Laona-Wabeno, on the first team. Taylor and Novak were both unanimous selections, while Taylor was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Florence sophomore point guard Evan Johnson was named a second team selection. Goodman-Pembine junior guard Jacob Kessel joins Johnson on the second team. Seniors Braden Fredrick of White Lake and Hunter Meistad of Phelps, along with Three Lakes junior Logan Erikson were also tabbed to the second team.

Florence sophomore Dominic DeMuri and Goodman-Pembine junior Landon Kalkofen were named as honorable mentions.

Bill Taylor of Laona-Wabeno was named NLC Coach of the Year for the boys side.

On the girls side, Florence freshman Isabella Millan was named to the second team. Leading the NLC in scoring, free throws attempted, free throws made and over all free throw percentage, Millan was the only freshman to be an all-conference selection in the NLC this past season.

Ladycats senior Lacey Enders was named as an honorable mention.

Conference champion Crandon head coach Jeff Mayer was named NLC Coach of the Year. Laona-Wabeno senior Kylie Higgins was named both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year.

Higgins, along with her teammate Emma Harris were selected to the first team. Joining them are Crandon sophomores Holly Palubicki and Mara Stamper.

Sydney Lurvey of WIAA Division 5 state runner-up Three Lakes was a first team selection as well. Her teammates Kara Sowinski and Taylor Kolling joined Millan on the second team.

Seniors Maddie Stamper of Crandon and Ellie Ashbach of Elcho were tabbed to the second team as well.
