LAONA, Wis. — In a Northern Lakes Conference softball game, host Laona-Wabeno defeated Florence 8-5.

Each team scored four runs in the fifth inning of Thursday’s contest as the Lady Rebels pecked away at Florence’s defense. Senior Sidney Tomczak toed the mound for Bobcats, allowing one walk and five hits.

“We fell apart in the fifth inning, with too many errors,” said Florence coach Dan Robinson. “They (L-W) are the best team in the conference. Our girls played tough against them both times, though. We struck out three times, where last time we had 10 strikeouts. So we’ve gotten better and more patient at the plate as the year has gone on.”

Morgan Tomczak and Leighton Lambert each belted a double for Florence, and Ashelyn White also had a hit.

Florence returns to action on Monday as they host NLC foe Crandon. Florence will host Bowler on June 14 at 5 p.m. in a WIAA Division 5 regional game.
