KINGSFORD — Twin City rivals faced on another of the hard courts this afternoon, as Iron Mountain traveled across Woodward Avenue to face Kingsford in a non-conference girls tennis dual at the Kingsford High School Tennis Facility. The Mountaineers came away with a, 6-2 win on the afternoon.

It was Senior Day for Kingsford, with it being the seniors last home match of the regular season.

“After a great showing at the Kingsford Invite, we were able to keep moving in the right direction. Callie Bianco (No. 1 singles) did a good job controlling the pace of play in her match, and that’s when she plays her best,” said Iron Mountain girls tennis coach Marcus Celello. “We’re coming down the home stretch of the season, and the girls are playing their best tennis of the year. Elle Lofholm got off to a great start in her match today and didn’t look back.”

Addie Rutter and Linnea Grubb at No. 3 doubles, and Lexie Vross-Ellyce Doenier at No. 4 doubles picked up wins for the Flivvers, who will travel to non-conference foe Westwood today.

“Playing Iron Mountain is always something we look forward to. They have a great team, hardworking and sweet girls,” said Kingsford head girls tennis coach Tracy Rutter. “The score of the match doesn’t reflect how we played.”

Kingsford No. 2 singles player Jenna Olkkonen competes in a non-conference dual Monday afternoon at the Kingsford High School tennis facility.

“Addie and Linnea at No. 3 doubles continued their streak of marathon third set matches. Super proud of them for winning today,” Coach Rutter added. “Lexie and Ellyce, they continue to play great at No. 4 doubles.”

Iron Mountain returns home to face Mid-Peninsula Conference foe Gladstone this afternoon, before hosting West PAC and Mid-Peninsula Conference foes Westwood and Ishpeming on Thursday.
