Nordics spikers top Trojans, 3-1

FELCH TOWNSHIP — North Dickinson hosted rival Forest Park in a Skyline Central Conference girls volleyball match Monday night and it was the host Nordics defeating Forest Park, 3-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-15, 25-18) at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium.

“We came out strong in the first set behind a serving streak from Ashton Hord. We kept up good energy and looked like were ready to play,” said Nordics head coach Taylor Johnson. “We lost the energy in the second set and started to make mistakes. We had a lot of serves go out, which was unusual for us, and had some unforced errors.”

Johnson credited Vanessa Lindholm for a smart game. “She had some timely tips and set the ball well for us. I thought Ashton Hord played well in the back row, she made some great saves for us and kept the ball in play, and she led our defense with 18 digs,” Johnson said.

“Kassandra Cary paced our offense with a big big night at the net, with 16 kills and three blocks. Micah Lindholm also did well at the net, with 8 kills and some well placed tips,” Johnson added.

Forest Park won the JV match, 2-1.

The Nordics remain home as they’ll entertain SCC for Stephenson tonight, while the Lady Trojans return home to face non-conference cross county rival West Iron, tonight as well. FP will travel to Munising on Thursday, while ND will head to Superior Central on the same night, with both matches being SCC action.
