Flivvers swim team sweeps

ISHPEMING — The Kingsford swimming team continued to post impressive results Tuesday night when the Flivvers swept the co-op team of Ishpeming-Negaunee in Ishpeming.

The Kingsford girls nearly doubled up their hosts, recording a 112-58 victory, while the Flivver boys scored a 90-74 victory.

“The girls had another good meet. The only double winner was Adelaide McRoberts in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke,” Kingsford coach Jim Lindstrom said. “Both swims were good for pool records — the butterfly was by 6 seconds. She hasn’t lost a beat (and is) swimming better than last year.

“Sydney Scott had an outstanding meet winning the 200 IM and (taking) second in the 100 butterfly. It is the best I have seen her swim this year,” he added.

Her sisters Samantha and Sierra won the 500 free and the 100 back, respectively. Mackenzie Gilroy also notched her first win of the year in the 200 free. Anna Lundholm added a win in the 50 free.

The 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams, comprised of the Scotts and McRoberts, also recorded victories.

“The boys, in spite of being undermanned, found a way to win,” he said. “Zane Cahee continued his winning ways, winning both the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. Tommy Lundholm won the 200 free and the 100 backstroke.

Not to be outdone, little brother Joey won the 200 IM and 500 free. First-year swimmer Michael Mulligan scored his first high school win in the 100 freestyle. Pierre Hurtubise scored his first win in the 50 free also.

Thomas Lundholm, Bryce Groneveld, Mulligan, and Hurtubise won the 200 free relay. Mulligan, Cahee, Joey Lundholm, and Hurtubise won the 200 medley, while Tommy Lundholm, Groneveld, Mulligan and Hurtubise captured the 400 freestyle relay.
