Kingsford girls golf dominates in Ishpeming

ISHPEMING — Bryonna Sanders led the way for the Kingsford varsity golf team on Tuesday as it took home first place at the 18-hole Range Bank Invite in Ishpeming.
The Flivvers ended the day with a 416. Marquette (426), Calumet (436), Negaunee (442) and Munising (512) rounded out the top five. West Iron was sixth.
Sanders finished in second place, shooting a 94. She finished the front nine at 44 and the back nine at 50. The Sentinels’ Abby Luke took home first place in the girls competition.
Kingsford’s Grace Maki and Maddy Zeuske ended the day tied for fourth at 105. Maki shot a 52 on the front and a 53 on the back nine while Zeuske hit a 53 and 52 respectively. Ella Rizzo rounded out Kingsford’s scoring at 112, finishing at 12th overall. She shot a 54 on the front nine and a 58 on the back.
The Wykons’ best finisher was Adi Franzene in 10th place at 110. Aubrey Bice (21st, 120), Gracyn Melstom (31st, 132), Ella Holm (43rd, 152) and Kloe Thunander (46th, 163).
Norway also competed at the Range Bank Invite. Saide Powell and Gracie Schiltz ended the day tied at 25 after shooting a 126. Ella Wojtowicz was the Knights’ only other placer. She came in at 32 after shooting a 134.
The Flivvers’ boys didn’t have the same success as the girls squad. They ended the day in eighth out of 13 teams, after shooting a 360 in the 18-hole competition.
Lance Harry (17th, 84), Nick Doran (29th, 88), Jared Johnson (47th, 97) and Dominic Grenfell (34th, 91) all competed for Kingsford.
Iron Mountain ended the day with a 378, bringing home 11th place. Cooper Pigeon led the Mountaineers with an 80. He finished in sixth.
Jack Supanich (52nd, 101), Adam Krackenberger (43rd, 95), Luke Wolfe (53rd, 102) and Ketcher Smith (58th, 140) also recorded scores for the Mountaineers.
Norway didn’t have enough athletes to place.
Dallas DeBernardi (43rd, 95), Josh Schiltz (45th, 96) and Toby Berley (59th, 178) all competed for the Knights.
Anthony Sucholl (54th, 103) and Nathan Camps (57th, 113) competed in the event for West Iron.
On Monday, the Flivvers competed in a Greater Northern U.P. Conference contest at Pine Grove Country Club.
The Kingsford girls team ended up securing first place after recording a 201 on the back nine.
Maki and Sanders each shot a 41 and finished tied for first place.
Rizzo ended the day in 14th place. She shot a 58. Zeuske shot a 61.
The Flivvers are currently tied with Escanaba at first in the GNC rankings ahead of the GNC Final on Monday.
The Kingsford boys also had a strong showing on Monday. They ended the day in third with a 166. Escanaba was first with a 157 overall score.
Lance Harry was the Flivvers’ top finisher at 36. He ended the day in first place. Jordan Bray and Nick Doran also scored points for Kingsford, tying for 12th with a 43. Jonah Nelson rounded out the scoring with a 44. He finished tied for 14th. Owen Edwards shot a 52 for the Flivvers.
